Update from Coach Guthrie on our Volleyball team!!
The girls had a huge day, on Saturday, at Sacred Heart. We started out the day with a 2-0 win over Rock Port, with scores of 25-15 and 25-20. Next up, we knew we had a challenge ahead of us with Sacred Heart. They had two girls, standing at least 6' tall, that could really hit the ball. The game started out a little rocky for us, as we ended up with quite the deficit, but these girls never quit. They have shown tremendous heart and fight all season, but I haven't seen anything like the fight they showed in our second match on Saturday. At one point in the first set we were down double digits, with no timeouts left, but these girls rallied and battled back to almost tie the game and finish with a 20-25 loss.
Game 2 was a tough battle back and forth; our girls were relentless, everything that Sacred Heart sent at us, we were able to dig it up and send it right back, and we took game two 25-22. The momentum from our game two win carried over into game 3 and our girls never looked back; we were able to run away with a 25-10 win in game 3, behind some very tough defense and some awesome serving.
We are so excited for a chance to head to Cape Girardeau this weekend and have a chance to compete for a state championship. These girls just don't quit, and I truly believe the sky is the limit for them. We play our first game at 9:00 am on Friday against Calvary Lutheran, followed by our second one at 11:00 am against Advance and our final game of the day at 1:00 pm against Billings.
Our finish in round robin, on Friday, will determine if we play for 3rd or the championship, on Saturday. We'd love to see as many people as possible make the trek down south to support these girls!
